Description: The film is fragmented, switching from one scene to another and returning in a way which makes it hard to follow. Private Heavyside (of 15th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry) arrives by train at Shield Row Station where he is met by the mayor and a crowd of civilians, who shake his hand. He is taken by car in a procession through streets thronged with people cheering and waving Union Jacks. In the procession are an Army contingent, a Cadet Corps contingent and a Boys Brigade contingent. Small children are led in file to take their place along the way and cheer as he passes. On the balcony of the town hall the mayor delivers a speech for him.
The arrival of Private Michael Heavyside VC in his home town of Stanley, County Durham, returning from the First World War.
